    • The month(s) before the move

Book your moving day. Especially if you are planning to move during peak season (May-September) it’s a good idea to book your move a couple of months in advance to ensure availability on your desired moving day.

Order moving boxes and packing supplies (we deliver!)

Sell, donate or discard unwanted items.

Start packing. If you don’t plan to use it...pack it! Chipping away at items that are in storage, out of season or seldom used makes the task of packing much less daunting.

        Two Weeks Before Moving Day

Make a ‘to do’ list of any repairs or services that need to be done prior to close on the home you are selling and start doing them, or get them scheduled with a handyman/service professional.

Make arrangements for child care and/or a pet sitter for moving day. Being able

to focus on your move makes the process much less stressful.

Arrange for time off from work. If possible, also taking the day before and after the move will go a long way to making your move less stressful!

Send an email or postcard to friends and family with your new address

Notify your local department of motor vehicles to change the address on your driver’s license.

Notify the post office of your forwarding address

Notify your human resources and/or payroll department at work

Notify utility companies to cancel service and set up new service:

        Cable/Internet/Phone

        Electric

Gas/Oil (also schedule gas appliances to be disconnected) - Home security/alarm

Confirm elevator, loading dock and special parking arrangements/permits

        One Week Before Moving Day

        • Confirm your moving day and time with your moving company. (Bridges Bros will also contact you the day prior as a final check in)

        • Remove all permanently affixed items that you wish to take from walls and ceilings (drapes, lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, etc.).

        • If preparing for a closing on the sale your current home, set aside spare house keys, alarm codes and other items to be given to your Buyer.

        • Drain gasoline and oil from lawn mowers, generators, snow blowers, etc.

          The Day Before Moving Day

Pack a moving bag. Make sure to include clothing and toiletries, along with other items that you may need to easily access (checkbook, passports, plane tickets, cash, credit cards, phone chargers and prescription medications, as well as a scissors/box cutters and some basic tools for unpacking and setting up.)

Pro Tip- make sure to pack a roll of toilet paper and a couple of flashlights and/or candles, just in case the electricity isn’t turned on at your new home

? Set aside any items you will be moving in your own vehicle

? Clearly mark any items not intended to be moved by your movers.

? Disconnect TV’s, computers and other electronics. Remove any wall mounted TV’s from the wall and pack in original box (if available)

? Prepare coolers for any refrigerated items you will transport to your new home

? Pack all non-perishable food items and other kitchen items

? Disconnect propane tank from gas grill. (Your mover cannot transport these)

? Clear walkways, driveway and doorways to ensure no obstacles will be present as items are being moved

? Remove any snow from walkways and driveway and use sand and/or salt to treat any icy surfaces.

? Do a final walk through, opening up all cabinets, drawers etc. to make sure nothing you care about gets left behind
