In the heart of Wolfeboro lies the Sewall Woods Trail System – The Lakes Region Conservation Trust’s Sewall Woods Conservation Area is a tranquil, scenic 179-acre woodland located just off of Main Street.

The trail system provides opportunities for recreational activities (walking, mountain biking-single track, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing) and nature observation and is linked with the Town’s Abenaki trail network in the winter, providing a total of over 18 miles of cross country skiing trails. Sewall Woods encompasses four parcels of land acquired by The Lakes Region Conservation Trust through tremendous work and generosity of landowners, donors, and volunteers during the years 1998 to 2007. The property consists of the A. Denny McLean and Mary McLean McBride Forest, purchased in 1999; the Raymond Tuttle property, received as an extraordinary gift in 2000; the Munro property, purchased in 2003; and the Horn property, purchased in 2007.  This land, for many years cultivated by local farmers, is now conserved in perpetuity and provides scenic forest and wildlife habitat.

Walking the trails is best from May through November. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash or be under voice control in the spring, summer and fall not the winter. Trails are for use only for cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter months (December-March) the snowshoe trails are coded yellow and are separate from the cross-country trails which are coded green (easiest) blue (more difficult) and black most difficult.

The Cross-Country Trails are groomed and maintained by the Wolfeboro Cross Country Ski Association.

The mountain bike trails are maintained by the Wolfeboro Single Track Alliance.
